Michelle Collins guest stars as the distraught mother of Simone, a young victim of a college shooting incident, in this feature-length first episode of the new series of the long-running medical drama.
Holby City's laid-back staff nurse Donna is catapulted into the Emergency Department (ED) to help out during the traumatic events, while new nurse Mads joins the team as its latest regular. It's her first job since leaving Pakistan and Mads tries her best to understand instructions but struggles with the stronger regional accents, causing serious problems later on.
Jeff and Dixie treat Maria, who has an injury to her arm. Jeff and Maria flirt and arrange to meet later at Holby College where she works. Dixie pales as she realises what's happened – it's not a serious wound, but Maria has been shot.
A jogger is also brought into the ED. It soon becomes clear that both the jogger and Maria have been shot with ball bearings fired from an air rifle. The staff begin to worry – could the shootings be linked? Noel is further concerned when he finds sinister footage on the internet suggesting worse is to come...
The incident comes to a head at Holby College, bringing terror right into the heart of the fully stretched ED. Seen through the eyes of the team in the emergency department and the victims' traumatised families, the incident tests the team's courage, expertise and, ultimately, the strength of their bonds with each other.

Departures, New Characters, A Return and Guest Appearances

Stephen Lord joins the cast of Casualty as Warren Clements, the husband of Kirsty Clements and will be on screen from early on in Series 25.

Oliver Kent, Series Producer had this to say: "We're really excited that Stephen Lord is joining Casualty as Kirsty's husband. He's a really good actor with a great range and we're going to see some really powerful stuff from him and Lucy Gaskell when we delve more closely into Kirsty's home life and marriage."

A couple of weeks ago we saw old favourite Megan Roach return to the series played by the ever-wonderful Brenda Fricker. Oliver Kent had this to say about the storyline:

"Charlie realises that she's very, very ill and the knowledge that his best friend is terminally ill is very difficult for him to cope with. He turns to Tess to help him through it and together they have to make some very difficult decisions.

"The story climaxes towards the end of the series with an almost three-hander, which is the best episode of Casualty I've ever seen. When I read the script, it made me cry so much that I couldn't see it. And when I watched it, it was the first time I'd watched an episode and not had a single note to give. Brenda's just incredible."

Michelle Collins will guest in Casualty next series as Camille, a mother of an injured girl. Oliver Kent had this to say: "We're really, really excited to be working with Michelle Collins. It's obviously a number of years since she last worked with Michael French and their first scene together, which is in the third episode of the new series, is absolutely electric."

"She arrives in the first episode of the new series as Camille, the mum of a girl who's injured. She's with us for about six episodes. She looks fabulous and is a real force to be reckoned with."

Meanwhile in Holby, several departures are on the way including previously announced Faye Morton (Patsy Kensit). The other departures are now known as Connie Beauchamp (Amanda Mealing) and Joseph Byrne (Luke Roberts). Luke departs after successfully gaining a role in the new Pirates of the Caribbean film. It is highly rumoured that Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) will be next to go after Quarshie revealed an inoperable cancer storyline for his character in the near future.

On the up side, Lady Anne-Marie Byrne (Jane Asher) is scheduled to return.

It's a day of reckoning for May and Adam as they are brought face to face with the past, as the hospital drama continues.
May's guilt over betraying, and then deserting, Yuki is starting to overwhelm her and haunts her every moment. When Yuki is finally found, he has been living rough and is dehydrated and too disoriented to communicate. His friends can only watch helplessly. May then opens an envelope of white powder, sparking a suspected anthrax alert which causes the ED to be shut down.
Trapped in resus is Jimmy, a seven-year-old boy who has been hit by a car. The driver is Tina, a woman who is determined to avenge the death of her own daughter who was murdered as a schoolgirl by Jimmy's mother, Anna. Thrown into turmoil, Anna's husband rejects her but Anna is desperate for forgiveness. When Jimmy takes a turn for the worst, only Tina holds the key to his survival.
Also trapped in the lockdown, May looks on as Yuki lies prone and uncommunicative. Faced with the human results of her betrayal, she finally finds the courage to own up to her duplicity – but she may have alienated Yuki, and everyone else, for good.
Meanwhile, Adam's grief resurfaces and his trauma at Harry's death is brought into sharp focus. And it looks as though Charlie might become a grandparent after all.
Laura Aikman plays May, Tristan Gemmill plays Adam, Will Sharpe plays Yuki, Tessa Peake-Jones plays Tina, Chloë Howman plays Anna and Derek Thompson plays Charlie.

Sam, who plays HCA Alice Chantrey, will last be seen in next week's episode to be screened on 1st May.

In the episode, Alice decides to take decisive action following Adam's humiliating treatment of her.

Sam joined the cast back in April 2006. Starting Holby as a receptionist, she then took on the role of HCA and had a romance with technician Curtis, who was killed after on their wedding day after falling from the hospital roof.

New Character Joins Casualty

Being Human star Lucy Gaskell is swapping vampire blood for human blood as she scrubs up for her new regular role in BBC One's long-running medical drama Casualty.

Well-known for her roles in Cutting It, Doctor Who and Waking The Dead, Lucy (29) stars as fiery and vivacious mental health nurse Kirsty Clements, who brings a breath of fresh air – and a bucket full of attitude – to Casualty's beleaguered emergency department.

Appearing on BBC One screens for the first time on 15 May, Kirsty is set to turn the ED upside down with her dirty laugh, brilliant nursing, disregard for authority and loyalty to her patients.

Says Lucy: "Joining Casualty has all been a great big whirlwind, but the cast and crew have been welcoming and friendly from the moment I walked through the doors. It's been really easy to fit in and I've not once felt like the ‘new girl'."

Lucy is also thrilled to be working with her old school friend and great pal, Casualty favourite Georgia Taylor.

She says: "Georgia and I have had a couple of little scenes together and let's just say our characters don't hit it off immediately. At one point Ruth says to Kirsty: 'I'm sorry, but I don't know who you are.' And I just wanted to say back: 'It's me, Lucy, your old school mate! So we've had a fairly fractious few scenes together but it's really lovely to have someone you know from way back to work alongside."

Series producer, Oliver Kent, says: "We are delighted to welcome Lucy to Casualty. She's exactly the right person to bring the human whirlwind that is Kirsty to life and she's settled into the Casualty team beautifully".

Casualty continues to thrill Saturday-night audiences with a medicinal mixture of high-action drama, reflection of social and health issues and the everyday lives and loves of the staff at Holby City hospital's emergency department.

Hearts are beating a little faster in Casualty this month as a trio of dashing new doctors joins the Emergency Department to set female pulses racing and threaten the equilibrium of the department. Gowning up for medical action are Hotel Babylon hunk Raymond Coulthard as Matt Strong, an anaesthetist whose bedside manner turns the head of feisty Zoe (Sunetra Sarker); rising star Robert Boulter as Kieron, a new F2 who melts ice-queen May (Laura Aikman) but is harbouring a big secret; and much-lauded actor Michael Maloney as Howard Fairfax, a consultant whose surgical savvy impresses the heroically high-maintenance Ruth (Georgia Taylor).

"Joining an established, long-running show like Casualty can be daunting but fortunately most of my filming was with Sunetra Sarker, who's a joy to work with," says Raymond Coulthard, whose character, Matt, is threatening the long-standing on/off relationship between Zoe and Jordan. "I play nice guy Matt who's got a big crush on Zoe and has a great bedside manner that makes him very popular with both staff and patients. He's warm, funny and easy-going – many of the attributes that Zoe seems to struggle with herself – and seems to be just what she needs in her life. But things accelerate very quickly between them and soon Matt is throwing caution to the wind and hoping that Zoe feels the same way.

"Luckily I didn't have to cope with a lot of medical jargon or blood and gore as the majority of my scenes are in an isolated love story with Zoe," he adds. "This was just as well as a friend of mine had a dream that on my first day of filming I had to say the line: 'Hello, I'm Matt Strong and I'm an anaesthetist.' He dreamt I had trouble saying it and after the 30th take he woke up laughing! Thankfully I didn't have to put it to the test!"

Survivors and Waking The Dead star Robert Boulter was less fortunate. His character, the enigmatic F2 Kieron, was thrust right into the middle of the medical action: "Playing a doctor is a strange experience," he admits. "Pretending you know what you're talking about when you don't is very bizarre but there are advisers on set who are fantastic at taking you through procedures and giving you the confidence to stand there and look like you know what you're doing. The jargon can be difficult – one of my first scenes consisted of three pages of words I never even knew existed! But with the help of the medical advisers I got through it and hopefully look like I know what I'm talking about!"

With the brooding Kieron causing ructions between fellow F2s May and Yuki and harbouring a big secret about another member of the ED, Robert was thrilled to have a big impact on the drama: "Kieron is fiery and passionate, and not afraid of taking risks, but he carries a big secret with him," explains Robert. "He has his own agenda, and is willing to go to great lengths to get what he wants, which means he's going to have a very big impact on the ED."

Far from being daunted about joining a long-running show, Michael Maloney relished it. He says: "There's a significant body of people constantly working on Casualty – a pressure cooker of people in a limited space all wishing to excel, which is pretty exciting. I'd worked with tons of people from the show before so it was a party! I mean, Stephanie Beacham was my landlady 25 years ago and I've hardly seen her since so we had quite a lot to talk about!"

Michael plays Howard Fairfax, who he describes as "a doctor who means well but manifests disaster".

"I've played doctors and psychologists before so I'm used to the medical stuff," says Michael. "The gore and make-up effects are really excellent but the authenticity is reduced somewhat when everyone breaks for lunch and tucks into steak and kidney pud regardless of how gaping their wounds might be that day! But my hat goes off to the real men and women of a hospital casualty department – now that's a proper job and to me, and many whose lives have been saved; they are geniuses."

With Fairfax causing medical mayhem and throwing Ruth's surgical ambitions into disarray, and the other doctors sending shockwaves around Holby, it seems the prognosis for the smooth running of the ED looks unsettled for some time...

Rushed to recuss where he is saved by Nick Jordan, Charlie is taken upstairs to Darwin ward and into the care of Elliot Hope.

Tuesday 16th February sees the broadcast of Holby City, Series 12, in which the story from Saturday night's Casualty episode is picked up and we discover what fate lies in store for Charlie. Meanwhile, Nick and Elliot argue over the treatment of Charlie...

It is currently at number 7 in the top 15 being beaten by: The National Lottery Drawss (4.75), Piers Morgan's Life Stories (4.78), Merlin (5.15), TV Burp (5.28), Strictly Come Dancing (8.43) and X-Factor (10.19). Despite this, it is still a respectable viewing audience. More details will be known when the BARB publish the final viewing figures in around two weeks time and when the AI is published. Injured pet shop proprietor Malcolm faces the loss of his home and business and the F2s are given their first patient to treat alone, as the medical drama continues.

During a heated discussion with his landlord, Malcolm slips while holding a fish tank and suffers severe lacerations. While Malcolm is in casualty, the landlord is forced to reveal that he wants to build a car park on the site of the pet shop and Malcolm and his wife, Brenda, face losing their home and livelihood. Yuki needs to use all his diplomacy skills when, at the end of his tether, Malcolm decides to take matters into his own hands.

Later, Yuki, May and Lenny are thrilled when Adam gives them their own patient to treat – Ruth's friend, Amir, who has a history of heart problems. Ignoring advice from Jordan, however, the F2s decide to follow their own course of treatment. Things go from bad to worse when the patient then goes missing. The F2s conceal their panic but are individually distraught.

Elsewhere, paramedic Polly receives some disturbing news about Alistair, which she responds to calmly. However, something is affecting her normally sunny disposition and she is behaving strangely around certain patients.

Episode Eight: Not Wisely But Too Well

Ruth faces a health emergency of her own while Tracy Shaw (Coronation Street) and Mark Jordon (Heartbeat) are among the visitors signing into Holby City hospital in this week's episode of Casualty.

Taken into casualty, Ruth is mortified to have to be treated by her colleagues. She swears Tess to secrecy over the abortion pill, despite knowing that Jay is panic-stricken. When her condition stabilises, Ruth admits that she was pregnant and she and Jay share a tender moment. But when Sarah Evans tells Ruth that she must remain focused if she wants to work as a surgeon, Ruth has to make a decision between her career and her man.

When Tim arrives at hospital with his son, Neil, who has been injured in a boating incident, and stepson Ronan, the attention quickly turns to the unhurt Ronan when he starts coughing up blood. Ronan's mother, Jane, is desperate with worry as Ronan has previously had leukaemia. Tim has some explaining to do when it's revealed that both boys have measles and Jane discovers that Tim never had Neil immunised.

Meanwhile, Polly realises it's time to tell Alistair that they're friends and nothing more and Zoe finds out some information about her new boyfriend, Joel, which horrifies her. Finishing the relationship immediately, Zoe is shocked to learn that Joel has stolen the memory stick containing patients' data in order to bribe her into seeing him again. Could the feisty medic be heading for more hot water?

Today I woke up and decided to create a blogger on Casualty and Holby City news. So here it is. On this blog, I will try to give you as much up to date news as I can as well as other spoilers and gossip for Casualty's 24th Series and Holby City's Twelfth Series. So far we are about 7 episodes in to Series 24 and 2 episodes in to Series 12.

There will be a total of 49 episodes in Casualty and 55 episodes in Holby City.
